| THE UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA Nov 3, 2000 |
| After being on hold for nearly two years while financing was secured, plans are once again underway for a new on-campus infant and toddler child care centre. The proposed location is the vacant building site within the family student housing complex near the Clarndon Road access. When the project was first proposed, the university sought input from family housing residents and neighbours to learn about any special concerns and expectations they might have regarding the proposed facility. Now that the project is back on track, two more information meetings are planned to give residents another opportunity to learn about the proposed centre and provide valuable feedback to the university. A special information meeting for family housing residents will be held on Nov. 7 from 79 p.m. in child care complex B at 3891 Finnerty Road. A second meeting for neighbours of the university will be held at the complex on Nov. 8 from 79 p.m. There is continued high demand for an on-campus care facility for infants (up to 18 months old) and toddlers (1836 months old). Currently, the university has no facilities for infant care and there are not enough toddler spaces to meet demand. The new project will provide spaces for 24 more toddlers and infants who will be housed in separate centres within one building. Construction is scheduled to begin in February, 2001, and the centre should be operational by September, 2001.
